We had the privlege of serving as hosts at the Hill Cumorah Visitors Center, next to the Hill Cumorah. We served in the center during the 10 days of pageant.
Our responsibility was to help direct the many people for tours and to experience the resource room.
We were also there to answer questions and to be of assistance to the Full Time Senior Missionary Couples and Single Sisters.
The Jensens on the right first told us about this opportunity and we were thrilled to be able to serve. It is a wonderful experience and we encourage our friends and family to participate.
The Hill Cumorah is where the Angel Moroni delivered up the golden plates,the ancient records of the people of the Americas 600 years before to 400 years after the birth of Christ.
A record of the prophets teachings and prophecies on this continent and testiment of Jesus Christ. A record of Christs visit after his resurrection to the people here and his teachings that reflect the same principles and ordinances that he taught in Jerusaleum while he lived on the earth.
It records the destruction of these people through iniquities and disobedience to God's commandments because of pride and worldly pursuits and wickedness.
In 1823 the Angel Moroni appeared to Joseph Smith in his log home and prepared him for 4 years to receive the gold plates. He was instructed to translated the characters on the plates so that the people of today may know the truth.
Through the power of God he did translate and publish those records as the Book of Mormon named after the Prophet who had abridge the plates.
After the plates were translated 11 others witnessed that they saw and handled the golden plates. Joseph Smith then returned them to Angel Moroni.

We walked that hill and marveled at history that took place and the change that has come into the lives of those who will head the promise left by
Moroni:Moroni 10: 3-5 (3) "Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of me, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.
(4) And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy ghost. (5)And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things."
We attended the pageant with Robert & Sandra and their family and again on closing night.
It was powerful and amazing as 700 cast members depicted the story of the Prophet Lehi and his family who left Jerusaleum due to religious persecution and was lead to the Promise Land (the Americas) so that they could follow God's teachings and obey His commandments.
We witnessed the dramatization of the rise and fall of their nations through obedience or disobedience to God, the prophecies and fulfillment of Christ's life on earth and His visit to this people in America.
We felt the message to the people of today that this record was written in ancient times for us today so that we may know of the coming of Christ and that He will come again as promised. The focus of the pageant wasn't on the Book of Mormon (though it told the story) but on our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Again the Holy Ghost bore witness to us that it was true and that we look forward and rejoice in Jesus Christ.
I remember this pageant as well. We camped out in a field near this hill, and went over early in the morning to save seats. We took turns all day long staying on the chairs so we could have a good place to sit. Great Moments, and spiritually uplifting.
