One always feels the Spirit of the Lord when entering His Holy House - the Temple of God. The Palmyra Temple was the 100th Temple dedicated on the 6th of April, 2000. From the Temple we could see the sacred Grove, where the restoration of the Gospel began, through faith and a simple prayer.
The stained glass windows that surround the Temple reminded us of this sacred area and we felt the power of the Holy Ghost witnessing again the truth of all that has happened here.
We loved the feeling and reflected on the power of the Temple, where those who have gone on before can have their saving ordinances, including Baptism and Confirmation, performed for them by proxy by those living. The sealing keys bestowed upon Joseph Smith by Elijah back in Kirtland and then given by authority to Priesthood leaders makes it possible for this work to be accomplished so that all may have the opportunity to choose to follow Christ and to enter into His Kingdom and have Eternal Life.
The work we did in Australia in digitizing records for genealogical and family history work is for the purpose of finding our ancestors and performing in their behalf, their saving ordinance, should they accept them. That is the joy of the Gospel, families can be together forever, that is Heavenly Father's Plan.
No earthly power, wealth, or status can compare to Eternal Families. That is why Joseph Smith, Jr. and many others then and now sacrifice their time, means, and service to build up the kingdom, share the Gospel with friends and family, and to remain obedient to the commandments of God, even until death so that they may receive the blessings of families for all eternity and live again in the presence of God the Father and His son, Jesus Christ. There is no greater joy.
