How Would You Spend Your Repeated Ground Hog Day?

We just passed "Ground Hog Day" and as per tradition we watched the film Ground Hog Day and reflected on the change of character of the weather man, Phil, as he goes from egotistical, self centered, self indulging, self gratifying individual; to a depressed and suicidal hopeless individual; to a learning, growing, improving, selfless serving individual.

He began with pride and ended with humility. He began with looking at life half empty, with a chip on his shoulder and negative eye and ended with looking at life as half full and getting fuller.
Is your life getting fuller, more meaningful, more happier?

If you had say 1,000 days worth(that's just under 3 years) to do one day, what would you do? Would you indulge your appetites, would you attempt to end it, or would you take advantage of the time to accomplish something beautiful?

Mission and Temple Presidents and their spouses get to have 1,095 days to fulfill a day of their life in this special callings.

Young men have 730 days and young women and Senior Missionaries have 548 days for their day as a missionary. The days filled with unselfish service creates something beautiful.

What are you doing? At the end of the day (no matter how many days it took to fill that day) what will it look like? Are you creating something beautiful? Are you fulfilling or preparing to fulfill a dream?

What is a dream but a vision of hope of something beautiful in the future.
Make your dream a reality - serve a day that fills a life time, serve a mission. Whether young or old you can serve.

Are there dreams of what you'd like to be or do that you could begin learning or doing now such as: music; art; sports; high adventure; sewing and quilting; writing; language, public speaking, scripture mastery, doctor, lawyer, etc?

Are there dreams that you feel you've missed? What part of that dream made it special? Can you create that special part in something else?
Too often we experience that hopelessness that Phil in Ground Hog Day experienced when he couldn't figure out what to do with his day to make him happy.
Narrowing our expectations instead of broadening our creative abilities limited his range of happiness. Once he looked for the fullness of the day happiness grew.

Are there places that you could prepare to visit through reading and studying.
One may never get to go to those places but a well read individual has already been there in their mind, visualized, smelt, tasted, touched, heard, and experienced it all through their studies.

We live in a world of instant knowledge and are we taking advantage of it? Are we taking time to experience the world and better yet making it better? What talents and skills do you have that would help another?

What talents and skills could you have to help another if you would begin now practicing and learning? At age 97 my Grandma was still attending classes and learning. She never stopped living and growing.

  1. Great post. I love that movie too and your interpretation on our use of time was perfect. Thanks for the reflection on my use of it.
