Where’s the sand? Grandma said there was sand all the way to the water? This can’t be the right place. We see Grandma standing on the sand next to the grassy water. Her eyes are wide, she’s shaking her head, and her arms are out like what in the world?

What has happened? This was terrible. Grandma and the others walked along the beach to the boat launch where at least mud met the water’s edge.

We piled out of the boat and burr the water was cold. Glad it wasn’t very deep.

Robert found a small stream that ran to the grassy water.

We gathered our buckets and shovels and helped to build up the walls and made a pool.

The grown-ups dragged their chairs over so that they could watch the little ones.

Some of the big guys, Dave and John, put on wet suits so they can go wake boarding or whatever it is called. They headed out to the boat while we attend to our dam building.

Wow, the pool looks icky with brown water and dirty foam.

I liked it better when it was just a little stream.

We’re hungry. Grandma brought the food and said that we each got 1 cookie package and 1 chip bag and we could eat it whenever we wanted to. We dashed over to the table with the food and helped ourselves, there was canned drinks for us too.

Some of the young kids played by the food table and Grandma stayed with Elicia to watch the kids. We returned to our little pool and joined the others in digging.

“I’m hungry, isn’t it lunch time?” We’re off to the food table and Grandma told us what’s for lunch. Part way through her hands swung to her mouth as she gasped, “oh no, I’ve forgotten the hoggie buns.” Grandpa was there and Grandma suggested that he go to the store.

Robert said, “we’ll just have lettuce wraps” and started to make him, Ashton, and Sandra lunch. Grandma was impressed and said, “what a great idea and healthy too.” So we took turns selecting the ham, turkey, cheese and wrapping it all together in lettuce or without (we called it a meat wrap).

Yummy! We wondered why there was catsup, mustard, and pickles in the cooler. Grandma said, it was supposed to go on the buns that didn’t make it.
The guys got back and Jeremy was ready to take kids on the float. We want to go. We ran to the water and down to the boat, we all want to get in. We couldn’t all go, so they let the older kids go. Darn! We wanted to go. Natalie said, we’ll get a turn, after all we got to ride down in the beginning.
“Can I have more cookies?” Grandma said, yes but we had to share a second bag with someone else. Great we liked to share if it meant we could have another cookie.

“Look at this big flat rock,” Elisabeth wanted to take it home. Sierra said it was her rock. Grandma sent us on an expedition to find a another big rock. Oh, look at all the big rocks, we found 2 or 3 pretty rocks and carried one of them back. The flat rock got broken but we don’t care. We could’t take them with us anyway.

The food was gone and the day was getting colder. The older kids were back and it was time to go. We wanted to go back in the boat but only Sage with her mom got to go again and that’s because Grandma said she could. Robert was going so that Ashton could have a turn. Grandma was going too. There were plenty of life jackets for the kids.
“Hot tub is open!”
Ashley supervised as we kids descended in mass on the square box with the hot water. Ouch! Its hot.

Brook liked the hot water and was the first to go in. We sat on the edge and then one by one we slowly submerged ourselves in the water. Bubbles were making it foam and jets were spraying water.

“Move over, it’s crowded, you’re in my way, ah this is nice, oops we just splashed your mom, little Keira wants to get in.”

Grandma and Grandpa came to watch. They say the adults will get in when the kids are out.

“No splashing,” says Grandma,” it is too crowded in there, too many kids.”

Finally moms and dads came to wrap us in dry towels and get us changed.

David and John built a fire and we roast hot dogs

and made ‘smores over the large open pit in the lawn as the rain clouds thickened and then opened up for a light shower.

That night we had talent show and everyone got up and did something. Sage started by trying to do a summersault and so that’s what lots of us did.

Adam played the guitar and we sat very quietly to listen.

Grandma said her talent was… and she named her children but she almost forgot to mention John in the right order. Ashley said, “it was because she was so excited to name me.”
